Ear Microsuction

Microsuction is a gentle and effective method of removing earwax and debris from the ear canal.

The short answer

Microsuction is a gentle and effective method of removing earwax and debris from the ear canal. Unlike traditional ear syringing, microsuction uses controlled suction to carefully remove wax without the need to flush the ear with water.

Microsuction Earwax Removal

I have undertaken specialised training in microsuction to ensure earwax removal is performed safely, effectively and with your comfort in mind.

What Happens During Your Appointment?

Your appointment begins with an examination of your ear canals and eardrums using an otoscope. This allows me to assess the amount and location of any wax or debris and determine whether microsuction is suitable.

Using specialised equipment, a small suction device is carefully introduced into the ear canal to gently remove accumulated wax and debris. Throughout the procedure, I can clearly view the ear canal to guide the removal process.

Once the procedure is complete, your ears will be examined again to check the ear canals and eardrums.

Preparing for Your Appointment

To help make wax removal as effective as possible, we recommend using earwax-softening drops for at least three days before your appointment. This helps soften hardened wax, making it easier to remove.

Please avoid using ear drops if you have a known or suspected perforated eardrum, grommets or ear discharge, unless advised by a healthcare professional.

If the wax is particularly hard or difficult to remove, further softening drops and a follow-up appointment may be recommended.

Your safety and comfort are always our priority.
