Funding & costs

How much does a hearing test cost?

Find out which funding pathway applies to you, and what to expect before your appointment.

The short answer

Most patients pay nothing. Hearing tests are fully funded for pensioner concession card holders and DVA white or gold card holders under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program. Children referred by a GP or ENT attract a Medicare rebate. NDIS participants claim from their plan. Private fees are quoted before you book.

Hearing Services Program (pensioners)

If you hold a pensioner concession card, assessment and a fully subsidised range of hearing aids are covered, including batteries and maintenance. There is an optional top-up if you want a higher technology level than the subsidised range offers. Bring your card and your Medicare card.

Department of Veterans' Affairs

White and gold card holders are covered for assessment and devices through DVA. Bring your card. If your hearing loss is service-related, tell us — it affects the pathway.

Medicare

A GP, paediatrician or ENT referral allows a Medicare rebate to be claimed. You do not need a referral to see us; the referral is what enables the rebate. Bring the referral and your Medicare card.

NDIS

Peak Hearing is a registered NDIS provider and works with plan-managed, self-managed and agency-managed participants. Assessment and hearing aids can be claimed. Bring your plan details or your support coordinator's contact.

WorkCover and employer-funded

Pre-employment and periodic audiometric testing is invoiced to the employer. If you have work-related hearing loss, a WorkCover claim may cover assessment and devices. Contact the clinic to discuss the pathway that applies to your workplace.

Private

No card, no referral, no plan? You are still welcome. You will be quoted a fixed fee when you book, and for hearing aids you get a written quote before anything is ordered, plus a trial period.

Hearing aid costs

Assessment cost and device cost are separate questions. Pensioners and veterans are fully covered for a range of devices with an optional top-up. NDIS participants claim through their plan. Work-related loss may be covered by WorkCover. Private purchases receive a written quote and a trial period — we would rather you were certain.
