How hearing loss happens
Hearing loss is caused by damage to one or more parts of the auditory pathway.
It is classified into three types.

Sensorineural hearing loss
Caused by damage or disease to the cochlea (the hearing organ deep inside our ears), and/or the pathway up to the hearing centre of the brain. This hearing loss is typically permanent in nature.

Conductive hearing loss
Caused by damage or disease that occurs anywhere along the hearing pathway – from the visible parts of the ear, past the eardrum and through to the middle ear. This type of hearing loss may be temporary or permanent.

Mixed hearing
loss
A combination of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss, this type of hearing loss may be temporary or permanent.
Why is hearing so important?
Hearing loss can have a dramatic impact on all areas of our lives, including the work (vocational), educational, social, and psychological aspects. Early diagnosis can improve outcomes for both adults and children.

Our Services
Committed to building, protecting and enhancing hearing and communication for life.
Let us conduct a comprehensive diagnostic assessment for your child. The clinic is fitted and calibrated to industry standards for the assessment of all children from late infancy (8 months) through to late childhood (16 years). We will make a thorough assessment of the hearing pathway for each ear.
We'll conduct a comprehensive diagnostic assessment to examine each part of the hearing pathway. This assessment will include a detailed audiological examination, followed by client-centred case management.
We'll carry out a quick screen of the hearing pathway to assess hearing. This is ideal for children who need a hearing check for school readiness or general hearing concerns.
If you have concerns about your hearing, this quick screen of the hearing pathway will allow us to assess your hearing and determine if further testing is needed.
Some Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists require a hearing assessment before and after procedures. Alison will thoroughly examine the hearing pathway and provide detailed reports for your ENT specialist.
Our primary audiologist will conduct a thorough assessment of your child's hearing pathway, specifically monitoring chronic conductive hearing loss and tracking changes over time.
If you require a medical check-up prior to starting a new job or for ongoing employment requirements, we can help. We have extensive experience in carrying out medical hearing assessments.
Need a comprehensive diagnostic assessment? We'll examine each part of your hearing pathway with detailed testing required for medical and occupational health purposes.
We'll discuss options to improve your hearing which may include communication strategies, hearing aids or assisted listening devices. Our approach is tailored to your individual needs and lifestyle.
Your tinnitus assessment will include a comprehensive diagnostic examination to identify potential causes. We'll discuss management options including sound therapy, counselling, and coping strategies.
If your child has difficulty recognising, organising and interpreting complex sounds despite normal hearing, they may benefit from an auditory processing assessment.
Do you experience difficulty recognising, organising and interpreting complex sounds? An auditory processing assessment can help identify specific areas of difficulty and guide management strategies.
We provide professional advice and recommendations for hearing protection, including ear impressions for a customised fit and order. Ideal for musicians, industrial workers, and anyone exposed to loud environments.
